The Prognostic Relevance of Computed Tomography-assessed Skeletal Muscle Index and Skeletal Muscle Radiation Attenuation in Patients With Gynecological Cancer

چکیده
The evaluation of the whole skeletal muscle area at level third lumbar vertebra on computed tomography (CT) scans has often detected loss mass, defined as sarcopenia, and reduced radiation attenuation (SMRA) in patients with different malignancies. Baseline sarcopenia been 33.3%-51.8% advanced cervical cancer, 33.6%-50% those endometrial 11%-64% ovarian cancer. We reviewed literature data clinical relevance CT-assessed status gynecological Overall, baseline index SMRA have an uncertain prognostic relevance, whereas their changes during treatment usually correlate progression-free survival overall survival. Multicenter trials are strongly warranted to assess effects pharmacological agents physical exercise management damage

Skeletal muscle attenuation determined by computed tomography is associated with skeletal muscle lipid content.
The purpose of this investigation was to validate that in vivo measurement of skeletal muscle attenuation (MA) with computed tomography (CT) is associated with muscle lipid content. Single-slice CT scans performed on phantoms of varying lipid concentrations revealed good concordance between attenuation and lipid concentration (r(2) = 0.995); increasing the phantom's lipid concentration by 1 g/1...
متن کاملRole of resistance training with the approach of blood flow restriction in skeletal muscle cell growth
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the response of ERK1/2 protein and muscular morphological adaptations to a period of resistance training with local blood flow restriction. Materials and methods: Twenty healthy male Wistar rats without clinically evident disease (5 weeks old, 120±7 g weight) were divided into four equal groups: control, control with limited blood flow...
متن کاملMechanism of Attenuation of Skeletal Muscle Atrophy
D-Myo-inositol 1,2,6-triphosphate (alpha trinositol, AT) has been shown to attenuate muscle atrophy in a murine cachexia model through an increase in protein synthesis and a decrease in degradation. The mechanism of this effect has been investigated in murine myotubes using a range of catabolic stimuli, including proteolysis-inducing factor (PIF), angiotensin II (Ang II), lipopolysaccharide, an...
متن کاملRadiation effects on skeletal muscle
The cells of normal tissue are not independent but form a complete integrated structure. Cell death after irradiation occurs mostly as cells attempt to divide. In tissues with a rapid turnover rate, damage quickly becomes evident in a matter of hours and days after radiation. In tissues in which cells divide rarely, radiation damage to cells may remain latent for a long time and can be expresse...
متن کاملEstimating the Radiation-Induced Cancer Risks in Pediatric Computed Tomography
Introduction One of the central questions in radiological protection is the magnitude of the risks from low doses of radiation, related to the justification and optimization of the diagnostic medical exposures. Therefore, the aim of this study was to estimate the cancer incidence and mortality risks in children of different ages, sizes, and ethnicities undergoing computed tomography examination...
